Academic Awards Program

In 2001, the “Best Graduate Paper Awards” competition was established by AMSS to encourage scholarship among graduate students participating in annual conferences. In 2009, this annual competition was expanded into an “Academic Awards Program” to include three separate awards: Annual Research Travel Grant; Annual Best Graduate Research Paper Awards Competition; and the Doctoral Scholarship Program.

North American Association of Islamic and Muslim studies.
(1) Annual Research Travel Grant
Open to junior scholars who have earned a Ph.D. This award is based on a scholar’s academic record and course of study in the field of Muslim and/or Islamic studies, involving the humanities and social sciences. To apply please fill out the application and submit to [email protected].

(2) Annual Best Graduate Research Paper Awards Competition

This competition will be open to Ph.D. students across North America (USA & Canada). In addition to the financial award, the winner will receive a Certificate signed by NAAIMS President with a promise that the winning paper be peer-reviewed for possible publication in NAAIMS’ peer-reviewed journal. The Best Graduate Paper Awards recipients from 2001 – 2009 are listed below. To apply please fill out the application and submit to [email protected].

(3) Doctoral Scholarship Program
The Doctoral Scholarship program is open to doctoral students in the field of Muslim and/or Islamic studies involving the humanities and social sciences, and covers partial tuition which is sent directly to the university, not the student.
